Why Averaging SGPAs Can Misstate CGPA
A 24-credit semester should count more than a 16-credit semester. The arithmetic mean of SGPAs treats them as equal, which is usually wrong.
Some universities recompute CGPA from every course rather than from stored SGPAs. If a failed course was later excluded from a semester card, stored SGPA and true CGPA can diverge.
How Hemiley Combines SGPAs
Each row contributes SGPA × semester credits to a quality-point total. CGPA is that total divided by the sum of credits.
This matches the usual ‘weighted average of semester GPAs’ method when each SGPA was itself credit-weighted inside the term.

Who Uses This Academic Tool?
Degree students
Estimate CGPA before the final marksheet.
Lateral-entry students
Blend diploma and degree terms if policy allows.

Explain why two students with similar SGPA lists differ in CGPA.
PG applicants
Fill cumulative GPA from semester cards.
Mentors
Plan the SGPA needed next term.
How to Use This Tool in 3 Steps
- 1
List each semester’s SGPA and credits.
Use registered credits that count toward CGPA.
- 2
Add or remove terms.
Exclude transfer terms if your policy ignores them.
- 3
Calculate CGPA.
Confirm against the registrar if this is for a certificate.
Common Use Cases
- Combine six engineering semesters into one CGPA.
- See the effect of a low-credit summer term.
- Project CGPA if next SGPA is 9.0 on 22 credits.
- Drop a semester you are repeating under a replacement rule.
- Convert the result to percent on the CGPA-to-percentage page.
- Teach weighted averages in a numeracy workshop.
Why Choose Hemiley?
Hemiley weights SGPAs by credits instead of a simple mean.
It does not apply backlog, improvement, or scaling rules unless those already changed the SGPAs you type.
