M4A to MP3 converter for iTunes and Voice Memos audio with bitrate and preview

M4A to MP3 Converter Online for Free

M4A is AAC inside MPEG-4 — Voice Memos, iTunes rips, and Apple-centric podcasts. Convert to MP3 when a car, Android app, or website still refuses M4A. Choose 128–320 kbps, preview, download. Protected iTunes Store files (M4P) will not convert.

MP3 output

Upload a M4A file and convert to MP3 in your browser. The first conversion downloads a one-time converter engine.

Why Apple M4A Often Has to Become MP3

iPhone Voice Memos, GarageBand bounces, and iTunes libraries default to .m4a. AAC in that container is efficient, but older car head units, some LMS platforms, and “upload an MP3” forms still reject it. Converting is a compatibility copy for those endpoints.

You keep the M4A as the Apple-native original when you can. This tool re-encodes to MP3 (another lossy step). It cannot remove FairPlay DRM from purchased iTunes tracks.

How M4A Becomes MP3 in the Browser

Upload M4A (.m4a, audio/mp4). Set Output bitrate, click Convert to MP3. The local engine decodes AAC and encodes MP3 with lame. Preview the MP3; download a new file.

First run fetches the converter engine once. After that, Voice Memos and iTunes exports stay on your device. If the file is M4P or otherwise encrypted, conversion fails — rip or export an unprotected M4A first.

Key Benefits

  • Voice Memos and iTunes shaped

Built for .m4a from Apple recorders and libraries, not generic “audio.”

  • MP3 for non-Apple players

Target Android, cars, and forms that still list MP3 only.

  • You pick the MP3 bitrate

Voice memos often sound fine at 128; music rips may want 320.

  • Preview the re-encode

Hear whether a second lossy pass is acceptable before you delete anything.

  • Original M4A kept

Keep the AAC original in Music/Voice Memos; download is a copy.

  • No iTunes desktop required

Convert a memo on a PC without installing Apple’s app.

Who Converts M4A for Non-Apple Gear

  • iPhone Voice Memos users

Send a lecture memo to a classmate whose laptop will not play M4A.

  • People leaving iTunes

Build an MP3 copy of an unprotected library for a cheap MP3 player.

  • Podcasters

Meet a host that still requires MP3 even though you edit in AAC.

  • Support and IT

Turn an Apple-only attachment into something Windows Media Player will open.

Why Choose Hemiley?

Hemiley treats M4A as Apple’s AAC container and warns that DRM will not magically fall off.
